Through this service, eligible local and women-owned small businesses can attain a price reduction of 15% when participating in Los Angeles solicitations, which in turn contributes to level out the playing field. Eligible small businesses are promoted on the County’s Online Directory and the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs’ social media profiles. Certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprises are offered the service of being promoted on the County’s Community Business Enterprise directory. This program is primarily concentrated on supporting business owners who are minorities, women, disabled veterans, or disadvantaged. Paid Family Leave
It offers assistance to women who are in such a situation that they must take time off work in order to care for an unwell family member. Paid Family Leave is also offered to parents who are in need of time to connect with their newborns. Pregnant mothers can receive approximately four weeks of Disability Insurance. Citizenship and immigration status do not affect eligibility to participate in the program. Work Sharing Program
Female employers can enter the Unemployment Insurance Work Sharing program as a short-term resolution to layoffs in the case that the businesses operation or services have been decreased. It helps employers reduce or even eradicate necessary layoffs, maintain trained workers, retain work conditions, and escape the cost of recruiting, hiring, and training new workers. Employees who are impacted by a decrease in work hours and wages can receive Unemployment Insurance benefits, maintain their current work position, and keep away from economic hardships. In order to apply, the employer needs to possess a registered business in California and have an active California State Account Number. Their hours and wages must have decreased by 10 to 60 percent, and at least 10 percent of the workforce within the company to be affected by these reductions. - Domestic Violence Programs
Assists victims of violence to regain confidence, and empowers them through a wide range of services and programs. Some of the services offered are confidential support, crisis intervention, community referrals, and in-depth information on the programs in which they are more than welcome to participate. The Sunrise Village Emergency Shelter supports women by providing them with a short-term community living environment where women and their children who are at risk can stay safe. The Domestic Violence Services Center provides case management services, in addition to legal assistance, counseling, resources, referrals, and childcare. The Education and Outreach program conducts discussions about domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, elder abuse, and stalking in Glendale. Finally, the Hope Closet offers clothing, footwear, and house equipment free-of-charge. In fact, all services come at no cost and are available in three languages: English, Spanish, and Armenian. - For Young Women – Camp Rosie: Girls on the Rise
A summer program that encourages girl’s empowerment through various workshops, team-building exercises, in addition to technology and art projects. This summer camp teaches young women important life skills such as maintaining healthy relationships, nutrition, self-defense, and physical fitness. During the program, speeches are held by a variety of female guest speakers who promote entrepreneurship and community engagement. All girls from the 6th to 9th grade are free to apply.
